New Project(s)

Hey everyone!

I just wanted to let you know what I've been up to the last several weeks. As you probably know, I've been writing sports content for a website called Simply Sports Talk for about a year now. I am still writing for SST, but I have assumed ownership of the site and have begun turning the site into a more complete source of news reporting. We just recently re-released my Zenyatta book as well and have a couple other ebooks in the process of being completed.

If anyone is interested in writing unique sports content, please let me know. I always welcome fresh voices and we will see if you are a good fit for the team.

Anyway, with all that said, I've been busy writing for my various clients and this hasn't left a lot of time for fiction writing, but I did actually sell my first short story. I will be keeping you updated where you can read this once it is published.

I've also been writing an ebook on a financial topic that will be used as a promotional tools for a website that I've been writing content for. I'm about 7,000 words away from completing this project and will hopefully be done over the course of the next couple weeks. Again, once this is up and live, I will be posting links so that you can see it.

What I've been up to

I've recently purchased a sports website and I have been working like crazy to make it successful. I've been affiliated with SimplySports-Talk.com for a while now, but I am currently running the site as an owner. It's been a lot of work, but it's also been a lot of fun. I enjoy working with other writers and helping them break into the competitive world of sports commentary and reporting.

We hope to bring our readers a lot of unique material. For example, I just published an article on Bill James and whether or not he should be elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame (my answer is an enthusiastic yes!).

We also are in the midst of producing a few different ebooks which will be available on the Amazon Kindle in the near future. We already have one out there on the racehorse Zenyatta.

If anyone is interested in learning more about the site, or even if you are interested in potentially writing for us, please feel free to email me at simplysportstalk(@)gmail.com.

Fantasy Baseball

As those of you who know me well should realize, I am a huge baseball fan. I played fantasy baseball last year for the first time. I was in two different leagues; one of which I finished 4th in, the other I was 11th. I learned a lot over the course of the season about stats and how to best predict the future outcome of the players on your team.

Or, you can trade your players for players that do already perform better. That part of the game took me a while to catch on to. I wanted to tough it out and show that the team I drafted was superior to everyone else. This, unfortunately, was not the case. In fact, there were some people on the team who had over 100 transactions over the course of the year. This boggled my mind at first, but then I realized that no one can tell the future exactly, not even the pundits out there who write on the subject and publish manuals. I have several manuals that I bought last year to try and give me the edge. was the best and most thorough, I thought.

Anyway, I wrote an article for the Simply Sports Talk guys about my favorite player in the draft last season, Josh Hamilton. Big mistake. He's a great player, his 2010 AL MVP status attests to that. But he is not first round draft material. Check out my thought process here.

Simply Sports Talk

Just wanted to point out that I have an article up on Simply Sports Talk. Tim Tebow, love him or hate him, can lead the Broncos to a big win on Sunday.

Zenyatta Book

As some people might know, I am an avid horse racing fan. I love watching thoroughbreds compete--they are sport in the most pure sense of the word. I haven't been as into the sport as I once was after the retirement of Zenyatta last November, however. As a tribute to this horse, I wrote a short ebook about her and about some of my opinions on the state of racing as a whole. I understand that many people are repelled by the rumors of drug use in horses, and I address this concern in my book. The horse racing world is way ahead of the human world in terms of finding and punishing cheaters, though, and I applaud the people looking out for the horses' best interests. Drugs can be used to cover up all sorts of medical maladies, and this can lead to a worsening of health or even a life-ending injury.

There are a few drugs that benefit horses, and these drugs should be kept within the industry. Lasix is a prime example. This drug helps prevent capillaries from bursting in the nasal and throat areas of a horse. In young horses especially, this can lead to serious medical concerns. Lasix should be administered on an as-needed basis for this reasoning.

Zenyatta changed the way I thought and felt about the sport. Her amazing achievements will forever stand out as one of the greatest feats of athleticism this world has ever seen. Losing her last race might have prevented her from obtaining the largest undefeated streak ever by a top-level thoroughbred, but her only loss was truly her greatest race.

If you are interested, you can buy my ebook through Amazon. Here's a link: http://www.amazon.com/Zenyatta-ebook/dp/B005MYKRL6/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1316188354&sr=1-1

This book would not have been made possible without my friends at http://simplysports-talk.com. These guys have a lot of potential in the world of sports journalism and if you are a sports fan, you really need to check out their insights.
